Ya I know it's been like a week but I didn't fall off-I was just readjusting my plan. It has come to my attention that some of the stuff I was doing int preparation for the title of "concept artist" may be ... I dunno kinda unecessary (?) and/or not good enough. I'm sure I'm my own worst cirtic, but I'm just checking what I'm up against and it makes my stuff look like ass, so now its time for some more, well-thought out polished and finished work. As for the previous concepts of Niyati, they look really amateur to me, however I think i'll include them as a quick way to conceptualize clothes because they were! But I'll need to do a full fledged illustrated one for her too just like this one of Kayli here. I am also gonna make a sheet like Niyati's for Kay also.

As to why it took so long to make this, well its because I just kinda winged it. There was a lot of trial and error in the making of this costume and I should have just planned it out from the start like aforementioned 'Niyati's costume sheet'. So another lesson learned. This is what I have for now, I'll have to add in more detail and break down the functional purposes or other views of certain attributes... or not. I don't know, but I'm moving forward knowing more today than I did a week ago...So its all good. Kudos to all who know where I got the names for her swords...you nerds... WHOO!! Long post. Kbye.

Ugggh Drawing boys is hard :\. Okay so, I've been drawiing these 3, Farren, Niyati and Kayli for some years and only a handful of people know their plot, so I'll share it with you imaginary reader. I have been working and reworking this story since I was like 16. I'm on my third (hopefully final) version now. I don't know if I'm satisfied with it either though. But some plot points remain the same. SO Farren and Kayli are from this village that's isolated and apart from the rest of the world as they know it. No one has ever come there (for as far back as anyone can remember) and no one ever leaves. People have tried but most never return or cant get past the wall that is the city's barrier. Anyway, Farren and Kayli (childhood bff's) get out, meet Niyati and try to ransom her back to her father for pickpocking them, trouble is: her father thinks she's useless and doesn't actually want her back so now they're all traveling companions for better of for worse and so on. There's more but that's the basis. Hi-jinks and shenanigans ensue.

This is a redesign of my character Roxy, I first invented her when I was.... ohh... maybe like 17. I didn't draw her that much, even then, because she was part of a sci-fi plot that never really got far. The last time I drew here was here. HA! I'd say I've improved a lot since then... but not by much since my men still look just as fruity nowadays. Anyway, I was kind of trying to get back into her plot. She is a genetically-altered mercenary of sorts, living about 1000 years from now. There's some mystery surrounding her past as she doesn't really know anything about herself. She has amnesia from waking up after 1000 years in a cryogenic chamber. That's all I got for now. I know they're tumbling with aliens too but I don't know why yet. You'll know when I know I suppose. LOL. I only got around to drawing her but she also has a little vulgar robotic-teddy bear named Mayo who follows her around and a really candid and no-nonsense BFF named Taz. Yeup.

I've been pretty busy lately. Between working 2 jobs and some freelance, finding time to really polish my work is scarce. I've all but let Savvytar go. The first Alice came out looking a bit too old. I liked the drawing at first but she looks like a teenager and a lot like the previous version of Alice I drew back in 2006. Also, something about her expression was bothering me. It looks incoherent. So I re-drew her, younger this time and was much happier with the result. I might go back to the knee-high chucks though, instead of those galoshes. Either way, I like the contrast between the frilly dress and the sneakers.

Sooo... I'm usually the first person to doubt the playability of MMORPG's. I played Guild Wars and pretty much level capped in that and ever since then it's just been a whole lotta boring mcsnoozle snorefest. I even played EVE online for a while, but that shit was worse than guild wars. WoW wasn't my style, so i basically gave up on MMO's, that is until today. I started playing an MMO today called Vindictus. It's effing sweet. This is my character BlaqueMagic. The outfits are to die for. TO DIE FOR! Its also brutal asswhooping gameplay and the graphics apply live action physics in game. Yeah... This shit is tight.

I initially sat down in front of the computer and began with a completely different project, but after like 5 minutes I got frustrated and worked myself into a tizzy when i couldn't execute the image like I wanted. So in order to pass the time, I chose a random stock photo from my resources library and just went to town. Granted, the photo was already touched up to some degree. But this girl just looked so plain to me, so i chose her and took her from looking plain to bangable. What do you think? An improvement or no?

This came about specifically after I was inboxed a job description looking for and Illustrator (Check) who has a feminine drawing style (CHECK!) that looks similar to Stila cosmetcis or Daily candy Style... well i didn't have anything like that, I'm far too digital and neat to do half assed watercolors. But I decided to go the extra mile, make this and send it to them in hopes that they'll choose me. A long shot but hey, whatever it takes.

I recently bought this awesome little book called The Graphic Design Exercise Book and it is AWESOME! Anyway it's basically a book filled with projects that every graphic designer should have in their portfolio. One section focuses on Logos and Branding, one on packaging, another on layouts and typography etc... but the thing that I love about it is how educational and objective oriented it is. It gives you specific guidelines for each of the projects and this one is called Promo. It's a weekly magazine/newspaper dealy for arts and culture, so this is the beginning of the cover. I haven't been this driven since college!

Oh, also, 2 years ago, in 2008, I drew the Niyati illustration- you know the one - to submit to Exotique 5. It didn't make it into the book, but its that time again people! And I've been invited to submit to Exotique 6! Pray for me. I still don't feel like I'm quite on that CGsociety level, but Niyati pushed me to a level that I hadn't seen before, so we'll see how it all turns out :). Wow. Long post. See you guys soon.

I draw Niyati more than I draw any of the other main characters in her plot. There are 3 of them. Niyati, Kayli and Farren in a fantasy plot that I began when I was maybe like...16? I've written and rewritten the story so many times. I'm on my 4th attempt now. But never mind that. Allow me to introduce you to Kayli. Originally she was this warrior amazonian type chick, kickin ass with a sword, but she's changed. She's still pretty tall, but her weapon(s) are now twin cutlasses- because that just drips badassery. Farren- who has yet to be drawn... well.. We'll get to him. And if you're not already familiar with Niyati...well.. you should be familiar with Niyati. She's one of the characters I draw the most. Her and Nina, who kinda have surprisingly similar features. Go figure?

I have more to show, but I just don't have a scanner :'( so once I get one, you guys will be bombarded with sketches, since, after all, it is a "SKETCH" blog. and I would've shown step-by -step for the last few submissions only- since I have no scanner- they were done in photoshop, from scratch. I FINALLY CONQUERED THE DEMON THAT IS DRAWING WITH MY WACOM TABLET!! It still sucks not to have a hard copy tho, so I learned alot but I'm gonna stick to paper. I have a 2 hour commute to work every day on the metro and I just recently started taking my sketchbook along to occupy the time. ANYbody who knows intimately about the daily metro nuisance of nosy people invading your personal space (my DC and NY people) can probably relate to this shit. But do people think it's, like, cool to stand directly over you, hovering and watching you draw? It doesn't bother some people, but it friggin' bothers me. They're watching me INTENTLY- Like I can understand if someone want's to peek at what I'm doing or whatever, but damn, to stand up over me, or sitting next to me leaning over so far that i can feel your hot ass breath. Dont people have ANYTHING better that they could be doing? It's so ANNOYING! Plus they're watching all the mistakes, erasing and tedium. Ugh. I hope they enjoyin the damn show, cuz that makes one of us. I've even gotten on the train with the intent of being far away from everybody else, in a single seat, alone. The trains here never get sardine packed like the ones in DC, so why the hell do people make it a POINT to come and see wtf I'm doin'?! HM?

I kinda feel like she looked a lot more badass when she was drawn in pencil. I don't now if it was the grittiness or the dynamic motion of sketch lines or what, but now that everything is all cleaned up she doesnt look nearly as vicious to me for some reason. Lately I have been extremely busy. Between looking for a job, my current job, comissions and freelance, I can barely find the time to scan and post half all the stuff I've produced. At least I'm being productive. I don't thinkI mentioned it in this blog but all my followers on Deviantart know that my New year's resolution was to be more productive after making a 2009 meme and seeing that i had absolutely nothing for the month of June. Anyway, I guess I just wanted to take the time to say that I've kept my resolution so far. I'm usually good for that though. Last year it was to get in shape and I got diesel enough to rip a phone book in half with my bare hands. True Story. But that's neither here nor there. Anyway, I gotta say- The weather is MISERABLE here! I thought it never rained in Southern California, but it seems like that's all its done since I GOT here! I mean it was storming earlier! Thunder and lightning! WTF I moved away from the east coast for mudslides, earthquakes and brush fires, dont gimme this thunderstorm bullshit!

I started this last night. It's Sequoia and her best friend's big brother, Osan. < (Unless you wanna continue reading useless fluff and Rhonda rants you can stop here.)

Before I left home to come to California I went through a lot of stuff to make sure I packed only the necessities, When I did I found SO much of my old stuff, OLD stories I had printed out and thought here gone forever and old sketches of my characters. I once had a plot for them all but its's not easy to fit like 22 people into a single plot, so in the later years I drew them less and wrote about them less, but they're resurfacing again recently. SO with all that fluff, (I JUST WANTED TO SHARE!!!) These are 2 of them and they all had these complicated plots. LOL So..here goes... Sequoia has been crushing on Osan since they were kids and her best friend, Opal, knows this but never really advocated her talking to him because Osan is a manwhore. One of the other girls they are aquainted with, a loose latina girl named Anita, already dug her claws in him, but that didn't devalue him to Sequoia, if anything it just made her more persistent< (or so I read and SAW in my old story and drawings that I had forgotten about) Anita was having a hard time keeping Osan to herself as they were just 'friends with benefits' anyway and Sequoia was gaining ground with him. In the end- there is none to speak of. But this image being a continuation of all that- it looks like she's succeeding. So I guess the big question is will she be able to keep his attention to herself or will she have to struggle with his womanizing ways?Only time will tell...

I think I'll color this one.

Forgotten Sketches

I completely forgot about these. They're about a year old. I was particularly impressed with the ones of Niyati and Nina. The Niyati sketch because I never sketch very loosely, I think when I sketched this I was just doing enough to get my point across and I moved on to do reference drawings, but I'm surprised that I (being the perfectionist I am) would sketch like that. I like it , it looks so dynamic. The Nina sketch just looks really good proportionately and technically. I don't know why I didn't use that image instead of the one I did use for the Pink Kitty picture. I'm guessing they were done around the same time because she looks pissed. Anyway, the last image was me trying to literally break through a period of artist's block..I think i was playing a lot of Guild Wars at the time. LOL

I found a few sketches in my old sketchbook that I never colored. I just plain forgot about them. They're good too! I think I was drawing a lot around this time, because I was starting to just pump them out. Anyway. I'm gonna make this short. Here is one of those sketches, of a Diva doing a life-size graffiti render of herself on the wall. She's making that face because theres a little cop off to the right side there and he caught her red handed. She's DEFINITELY not goin' anywhere in those heels. Sorry chica.

WOOOOOOOOOO! I'm on a roll with the linework- You guys should be proud of me for posting so much in the past few days! I'm just a little worker bee! HAHA. Antyways I sketched this a while ago, it's in this blog somewhere, probably over a year ago in the archives. But I decided that It was cute. SO here's the uber nice cleaned up vector lines. Yeah...Yeah you like that don't you? Yeah you do.

I may or may not actually end up coloring this, but since I took out the time to actually do the fancy linework I'm leaning more toward completing it so. Be on the lookout for this...possibly even with a background. Don't laugh! I'm being serious!
